KWL-Wiki

I have already know that Wikis widen the topic we want to know about.

I want to know how can it be more useful for my students in the class in what other ways I can use it to be more effective.

I have learned  that Wiki  provides us the accurate pronounciations of the words in the transcript way. In addition, we can practise it through this to pronounce the words right. I have learned that there are 50 ways to use Wikis in class also.

I can use Wikis in my future career to provide the students the written versions of the pronounciations of the words. I can collobrate wıth my students through using this web-site.I can encourage my students to do works and share it to their friends within that they will interact each other.
Moreover, they can get feedback thorugh using this web-site by commenting on their posts as we do in this course and  it makes me to feel comportable with the course because I can get feedback easily and I can reach my instructor whenever I have a problem. Through using it they can organize their ideas by developing them also.Within these 5 feature I will create acomportable environment to my students to teach English.

Settings button allows you to create you own webspace according to your likes. You can also update or edit you your page by clicking more button. It allows you to communicate with other on a one topic only by clicking and writing things. It is a quite useful tool for everyone to use to communicate.Users button allows you to separate the everyone each other as categorizing them into business or educators.

Non-Verbal Communication

                                                      Non-Verbal Communication

As I am in the department of EFL  non-verbal communication arouse a desire to me to create a discussion about it while the communication can be completed with language.Human beings make their communication accurate when it connects with their body language which is non-verbal communication. The only way that we can indicate the accurate term that we want to give can only be done by our body language.

Body language goes both ways:
  • Your own body language reveals your feelings and meanings to others.
  • Other people's body language reveals their feelings and meanings to you.

Body language is a powerful concept which successful people tend to understand well. Our body movement tells more than what our mouth says. Within our facial-expressions,posture,eye-contact,gestures,personal space ,paralinguistics , haptics and appearance.

1. Facial Expression

Facial expressions are responsible for a huge proportion of nonverbal communication. Consider how much information can be conveyed with a smile or a frown. While nonverbal communication and behavior can vary dramatically between cultures, the facial expressions for happiness, sadness, anger and fear are similar throughout the world.

2. Gestures

Deliberate movements and signals are an important way to communicate meaning without words. Common gestures include waving, pointing, and using fingers to indicate numeric amounts. Other gestures are arbitrary and related to culture.

3. Paralinguistics

Paralinguistics refers to vocal communication that is separate from actual language. This includes factors such as tone of voice, loudness, inflection and pitch. Consider the powerful effect that tone of voice can have on the meaning of a sentence. When said in a strong tone of voice, listeners might interpret approval and enthusiasm. The same words said in a hesitant tone of voice might convey disapproval and a lack of interest.

4. Body Language and Posture

Posture has great significance while reading body language.Postulating is very general approach of adjusting-relating with and defending from various physical environments, social situations or persons.Adopting a posture is what we have been coded in our subconscious minds since millions of year as primary defense and adaption mechanism.

5. Proxemics

People often refer to their need for "personal space," which is also an important type of nonverbal communication. The amount of distance we need and the amount of space we perceive as belonging to us is influenced by a number of factors including social norms, situational factors, personality characteristics and level of familiarity. For example, the amount of personal space needed when having a casual conversation with another person usually varies between 18 inches to four feet. On the other hand, the personal distance needed when speaking to a crowd of people is around 10 to 12 feet.

6. Eye Gaze

Looking, staring and blinking can also be important nonverbal behaviors. When people encounter people or things that they like, the rate of blinking increases and pupils dilate. Looking at another person can indicate a range of emotions, including hostility, interest and attraction.

7. Haptics

Communicating through touch is another important nonverbal behavior. There has been a substantial amount of research on the importance of touch in infancy and early childhood. Touch can be used to communicate affection, familiarity, sympathy and other emotions.

8. Appearance

Our choice of color, clothing, hairstyles and other factors affecting appearance are also considered a means of nonverbal communication. Research on color pschology has demonstrated that different colors can evoke different moods. Appearance can also alter physiological reactions, judgments and interpretations. Just think of all the subtle judgements you quickly make about someone based on his or her appearance. These first impressions are important, which is why experts suggest that job seekers dress appropriately for interviews with potential employers.
In other Words
As I have covered the all characteristics of non-verbal communication they are all important in communication through using language. As we can not separate language and communication from each other we can not separate the body language as well .All the 8 characteristics demonstrate the meaning of what we want to say accurately.

You can see in the video simply that language is not enough. For instance , the boy says the little boy that it is great that he got the lead role in the play but there is something wrong the little boy is not satisfied why? It is because of his tone he said that is is great but he seemed he did not care about it. Even this example can easily cover what body language and how body language shape language through communication.
Now before you share your opinions I would like you to focus on these questions that are below:
  1. What is the importance of body language? Why do you think so?
  2. Can we separate non-verbal communication from a language?Why/Why not?
  3. Do you think it is important in our department? Why?Why not?

There are related videos below if you are interested in the topic

In this video it again remains the features of non-verbal communication

In this video the man is in the interview and simply demonstrates positive body language . You can take it as an example for yourself.

KWL&Teacher`s Pet in Teaching

I have learned that Teacher`s pet allows the insturctor to prepare quizes, activities and tests easily for the learners. It is quite simple to do it with a one click all we have to do is to choose what kind of structure we want to remake the sentences as in preparing it for quiz.In addition, I think it is useful for the teachers to have such amazing application to access whenever they want because it is an easy way to prepare activities for students in which topic we want .In my opinion , it is the most beneficial data we have learned until now because as we are going to be teachers we are going to deal with papers all the time , so for preparing them a paper-based activity it is very reliable one  to use .Within this application we can change and play with the words accroding to what kind of question we wanted to make .For example, assume that I have given to my students a text that is about keeping fit and the content of it is telling what to do to be healthy and wealthy .I can prepare them a small activity by using  jumbeled paragraph option to make them to put order the commands of how to be fit.

KWL

Actually at first I havent had any idea about Teacher`s pet but in the last class our instructor indicated us that it is in Microsoft Office , so I thought that it is about words again.

What I would like to know more is what is the importance of it and what are the benefits of it for my future career. In addition, I would like to wide my knowledge what can I do with it to my students.

What I have learned from Teacher`s pet is that it again about words we can play with them in the need of our purpose .For example, we can play with the sentence ` punctuation, spacing ...Within this knowledge I suddenly understand that as future teacher we can use this access to prepare quizess or other tests because it  allows us to work on the structure of the sentence , so we can prepare for instance, a fill in the blank test on Present Tense. Therefore, it is quite useful for us to have a knowledge about this kind of application.

KWL and Interactivity

In my opinion,Interactive web pages are informative for the students and it gives the instructors and the students reliable feedback .I think it is a good way of testing students in different types of quizzes .It also save our time instead of spending more time on preparing paper based quiz. In addition, they give the results immediately when you finished.Jquiz ,Jmix,Jmatch ,Jcloze and Jcross interact with the students in a joyful way because while I was practising myself by testing the usage of them it was quite enjoyable for me to do a test in such ways.

What I have learned from this activity is really gain something to my future career which is not wasting too much time for students feedback to see. Without boring the students I can prepare these kinds of tests to make them interact with the content that I wanted to indicate them.

Within these web pages I can prepare the learners some tests that I can have feedback about their work whenever I want . For example, after teaching them a topic let say it is present tense , I can prepare them a Jquiz to see if they get the structure and the other things well.

KWL

Interactive web pages are allows people to communicate through accessing  the page.Visitors can make some actions related to some topic ; content.

I want to learn how can I use these web pages in my future career. In what purposes it is going to be beneficial for my students. In what actions I am going to access it and make myself interactive in a way of using it.

At the end of the activity I have learned that I can use these web-pages related to the content of making quizes and tests. Through using this beneficial web pages I can test my students knowledge .I can also make the tests in different ways.

Vocabulary Profiling CTE 319

I would use lextutor for text analysis because it shows the details more clearly

Wednesday, October 10, 2012

lexico-grammatical feature

For example, as it used in the text A the more difficult one ,
- and drying climate meant that by BC, the Sahara region was BECOMING
increasingly dry and hostile.

-World Cups. South Africa hosted the World Cup tournament, BECOMING
the first African country to do so.

- ence from France. Ghana followed suit the next year March , BECOMING
the first of the sub Saharan colonies to be freed.

For the verb becoming it always use afterwards an adverb or a noun phrase.
I can use concordance and lexico grammatical feature to show my students
the keywords how often they used and the surroundings of a word
within this I believe the learners will learn many words in the way
 how they use.

KWL

Readibility indicates the content in a more easier way in my view .In addition, rather than reading long words within readibility we have the content in the simple way to read .As we have seen in the first question that asks which one do we prefer for pre-intermediate group of students , we all have chosen option B because it has more readibility aspects in the text .

What I would like to learn more is how an access can make this in the right way ; I mean how it can make it in a one click .In my opinion, it is fabolous to have see the results how readibility does and what is the aim of it.

What I have learned from this activity is we can have the exact same content in different ways of readibility . I have learned how it does happen and why. I see that it occurs to refer the all levels of students and it is great .

Vocabulary profiling CTE319 data driven learning

I can give my students  a content which firstly they are going to read and  make them aware that they can handle with it easily by vocabulary profiling .In addition, within this they will be able to see the frequent and the common words that can easily memorize the topic .

Integrate blogging

I believe integrating blogging is very useful for the learners especially for us as future teachers because with this aspect we can reach all around the world by gathering data , information and ideas about special topics or anything else.In addition, it is a good way of integrating with you students via Internet because you can check them how they develop theirself or do they really make effort to develop theirselves whenever I want. Therefore, I am very glad to have this course to be able to aware this kind of development we can say. Moreover, within this aspect they will be able to get data , analyze and develop theirself more easily .

vocabulary profiling

Key words are very useful on education , I believe because in using and having the key words the student can figure out the topic easily .In addition, concordance is a good way of having the key words in a simple way for the learner.

Vocabulary Profiling

I could use a vocabulary profile to explore the learners frequent words.
It is possible to get students to use a vocabulary profiler . I can give them a text as an activity to discover which words are the frequent ones and the common ones.

The differences between the vocabulary profile and a word cloud are that in word cloud it shows us how often a word is used and the similarities of it but in vocabulary profile it only shows us the frequent ones and the common ones.

Vocabulary Profiling

As it stated in the frame prism shows us the colour of the light .As it showed in the slideshow , we can distinguish the words from a simple content inwhich the frquent words are .In addition, it shows us  step by step which words are more common used in the content.

The same word can not have the same colour always because it can changes .

Vocabulary Profiling

I think I ll have better results from a non-native speaker to score because in this way we can test easily and more logically which ones are more frequent words because a native speaker can think that the words are more common because of dealing with them all , so to test it it is more beneficial for us to use a non-native speaker to see it clearly.

I wasnt suprised by the frequency levels of some words because in my view as a non-native speaker I  have a tendecy to choose the common words more than the native speaker , I guess. It can vary from American and British English because they have differences in their languages .

It would be good to see their word frequency as a teacher to know what to teach them .

Vocabulary Profiling

Knowing the most common words  helps in teaching to lexical approach .We should focus on learning vocabulary to develop their knowledge of course, they will learn some of them naturally but we should make them learn the others too.In addition, word lists are helpful for the learners , generally they translate the words in to their native language to understand them well and it is a good way for them to memorize the words from the list .Dictionaries are good but in this way they have the required ones in a one page.

Vocabulary Profiling

I can not say that teachers must know all the words of  English but we as future teachers should learn the most required ones or frequent ones to engage with his or her students easily. In addition, it would help the learners guess the words more easily within the knowledge of this .

Vocabulary Profiling

In our some courses yes we do engage with guess word activity . For example, in our previous reading skill course we have learned new words by filling the blanks or matching the words .Therefore, I believe that 9 out  of 10 rule in guessing from content really works and observed .I mean if we know the almost all the sentence then we are able to figure it out what is the missing word .Moreover, there are some sustained sentences that can not be changed , so we observe that this rule is working.

Vocabulary Profiling

I think the fail of guessing a word is depend on the level of the student and the level of the use of language because if  the content covers high level of English it is more often to fail to guess the word .In addition, if the student is engage with the 90 % of the other  words then it is more easy for him to success. I believe that it happens to all of us because we do not have the ability to know the all words of English , so it  sometimes happens to me as well .

Teaching Ideas CTE319 Data Driven Learning

In my future career on teaching I will use an authentic content exercise to make my students get involve into it .I can also ask them to prepare a vocabulary profile about the content which will help them to see the frequent words of the content .Moreover, to make them explore I can use concordance process to help them to see how often the key-words used and see the collocations of it .I believe this kind of a day class activity will be beneficial for them to construct new knowledge.

DDL-Concordance

Task 3

Concordance shows a word cloud which indicates the key words in a text or content  how often the word use by their different font sizes  and also the collocation words of the key word.In addition, it is a KWIC display ; Key Word In Content. For example, from the view you can click on a specific word and see how often it is used and the collocations of it by sections. I think this is very helpful and beneficial for the learners to learn new words and see the details with a one click. Vocabulary profile does not indicate the collocations  and the differences as Concordance does.

DDL-vocabulary profile task 2

This kind of profile is express the most frequent words in a frame from which we can figure it out the topic easily. In addition, it helps memorize the key-words of a topic. For example, the five words the profile are "learning, teaching, materials, knowledge and language" which are the frequent ones.

This kind of view can be useful in many ways in teaching English because it helps the learners to memorize the words that are needed on a specific topic , so this make them learn and store easily .It is also a easy way of studying ; while the learners are studying on a topic this can make them to specify the key-words which can make an enlight in their mind when they faced up on a detail of the topic.I believe within this kind of learning they will develop their vocabulary level.

We can get the information what is trying to learned from the view.

DDL

In a f2f classroom , the teacher can prepare exercises for the students to make them follow it .For example, creat tasks to make the students participate and learn the new knowlegde easily and continually. In addition, with the authentic materials they are more tend to learn the new learning process because in this way they can contruct new knowledge add to their past knowledge. These kind of tasks make the students awareness and undesrtanding of the language learning develop.

I think Data-based learning is more suitable in groups because the most important aim of this kind of learning is to develop strategies of knowledge proccessing in the way of teaching and learning cycle. In addition, in group works it will work more to have different kinds of strategies on a topic and this will make the learners more active to participate .

Computers and Internet enhace DDL with the acquisition of web litearcy and extesion of classroom com together , so for the use of these we need to rely on Computers and Internet.

My expectations

My expectations from CTE-319 will be very useful for my future career.Firstly, It will be beneficial for me to handle with the technological tools .In addition, I can use blogs and the other good fields that I can easily reach to my students via Internet.I believe even as a student of this course  that it is a good way of interacting with our instructor because we can get help whenever we want , so I think my future students will get this benefit as well. Moreover, the most important aspect of using the blogs and others is accessing  all around the World. Therefore, my expectation from this course is to use the devices in true way and get use to it as our instructor shows it to us in detail.
